Membership on the Planning Commission is appointed by the Township Supervisor, subject to approval of a majority of the Township Board and consists of between five and nine members.  The terms of the members are three years.  One member of the Township Board must be a member of the Planning Commission.  

The basic function of the Planning Commission is to make and adopt a plan for the Township's land use development.
The Planning Commission is required to review subdivisions, condominiums, site-plans and special use permits.  They are also required to conduct public hearings on rezoning requests and zoning ordinance amendments and make recommendations to the Township Board.  

 The Richland Township Planning Commission meet on the first Wednesday of the month, 7:00 P.M., at the Richland Township Administration Office, 1180 North Hemlock Road, unless otherwise posted.
